Ontario Auto Insurance Benefit Changes

PROVINCIAL · ONTARIO ECONOMY OPENED JUL 18

As of July 1, 2026, Ontario changed auto insurance so that only medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits remain mandatory, while benefits like income replacement, caregiver and death benefits became optional add-ons. Supporters say drivers can tailor coverage and avoid paying for benefits they already have. Opponents warn some drivers will be underinsured after serious crashes. The changes are now in effect.
